One of City Ink Express's many specialities is edible ink. Some of you will be thoroughly educated on this marvellous invention, but unless you are planning to or already have personally used edible ink products, it's highly likely that you didn't know such a thing existed! This is where City Ink Express come in handy. In this blog post we're going to attempt to answer any possible questions you might have regarding what edible ink is, and then run you through which edible ink products we have available here. As always, if you have any questions what so ever then please don't hesitate to get in touch with us!

So let's get down to it.

1. What is edible ink?

Edible Ink is printer ink which is actually edible (unsurprisingly). It consists of different edible food colours and edible ink can actually be placed in special edible ink printers, or even in some inkjet or bubblejet printers. Edible inks are flavourless and will not impair the taste of your food.

2. What is it used for?

Edible Ink is used to print images onto special edible paper which is then used on or in various confectionary. Edible paper dissolves when it comes in contact with a moist surface, but it maintains a high resolution. So any images you see on cakes or cupcakes were made using edible ink and edible paper! You can use edible ink on various pastries, cakes or cookies and if you get some edible ink and edible paper you can create amazing and professional looking confectionary within the comfort of your own home!

If you've opted for a snazzy Hewlett Packard (HP) printer then we can't say we'd blame you. A firm contender in every race within the printing world, HP are printer giants that won't be leaving any time soon. But how can you get the best out of your HP printer? With so many different ink cartridges and toner cartridges available it can be difficult to get to the bottom of what will simply make your printer work in the way you need and want it to.

The aim of this blog post is to quickly give you the lowdown on what is avilable for your HP printer and which of these options is best for you, so that is exactly what we hope to do! If you need any further guidance please don't hesitate to get in touch. We're on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ too - just give us a nudge and we'll be happy to help.

1. HP Ink Cartridges

Now we're sure that your standard ink cartridges are the printer ink you're most familiar with. You get 4 - black, magenta, cyan and yellow and different levels of each combine to make any colour you could ever want in the whole world, which is quite magical really. What isn't magical, however, is the price that ink cartridges are. For a full replacement set you're looking at upwards of £55, which is a large whack of money to pay every time your ink runs out on top of the £100 or so you already paid for a printer! One option which you'll see by clicking on 'HP Ink Cartridges' is our range of refillable dye ink options. These are ink cartridges with a twist, and allow you to manually refill the ink (which comes with the purchase) - saving you that hefty cost. We've got lots of videos on doing these sort of things, so perhaps a little tricky at first, with our guidance you could save a lot of money. We'd perhaps recommend that either your standard ink cartridges are the best choice for the very rich (ha!) or those who will print only very occasionally.

2. CISS for HP Printers

Continuous ink supply systems are one of our specialities here at City Ink Express. Your ink cartridges come attached to a lovely ink tank which is filled of the printer blood which makes your work come to life on paper. This is a much cheaper option if you're looking at printing a lot - and again, we've got lots of handy tutorials to help you input this fantastic little CISS system to your HP Printer. One of these continuous ink systems can save you up to 80% on your printing costs which is so important if you're printing a lot of stuff.

3. HP Toner Cartridges

Toner cartridges are the cousin of your standard ink cartridge, and essentially are provide your printer ink in a powder form as opposed to the gooey stuff that gets everywhere and stains! Toner cartridges are most often found in laser printers, so if you have an HP laser printer then a toner cartridge will be what you'll need. Luckily for you - we have them by the bundle ready for you to replace quickly and cheaply at any time!

4. HP Printer Bundles

If you're yet to purchase your HP printer but you know that you want to, or if you know your old printer is on his way to the big PC World in the sky then you might need one of our HP printer bundles. With a HP printer bundle, you can choose the HP printer model from the list available (different printers vary in price of course) and it will come fitted with a CISS system so you can print to your heart's content! The beauty of our HP printer bundles? You get a great printer, a full continuous ink system which will save you stacks of cash on your printer and we'll set it up for you - so you have literally no work to do. So what are you waiting for?

Operating in more than 170 countries – and for over 70 years – it is fair to say that Hewlett Packard (or HP) has quite the pedigree when it comes to printing! As such, you would expect them to offer an all-encompassing range of printers that offers its technological solutions to both the home and work environments – and the good news is, they do!

As we have mentioned already, HP has a fantastic range of printers to meet your various printing needs, so all you need to bear in mind is what exactly you’re going to be using the printer for, and then buy the device accordingly. HP have a range of InkJet printers, Laser printers, as well as a range of Photosmart printers which specialise in photography printing – though the other ranges are more than capable of bringing your holidays snaps to life!

HP also has DeskJet models which are aimed at the home office market – these are a great compromise between their home-use printers, and the ones aimed at heavier office-use.

HP printers frequently visit the ‘best buy’ sections of consumer magazines so their reputation for making quality printers is well deserved! HP is a solid contender all along the board with winning printers in a wide range of categories, both in pricing and printer type.

If you like the sound of Hewlett Packard then why not think about purchasing one of our ravishingly reasonable HP printer bundles? This truly is the most cost-effective solution to the perfect printer!

Here at City Ink Express we strive to offer a complete service to our customers. Our continuous ink supply systems can save you a tremendous amount of money - in some cases up to 80%. If you purchase our printer bundles then we'll do the tricky installation bit for you, ensuring your CISS system is properly fitted to your new system. If you're just going to order your CISS system and install it yourself however, then we want to ensure that we can provide you with any help you might need.

Naturally we get dozens of enquiries on fitting CISS systems to different printer models every day, and it is nigh on impossible for us to get back to everyone - though we do try our best. To try and combat this problem we decided to create a City Ink Express YouTube Channel and create some fantastic easy-to-follow tutorials on fitting CISS systems to different printers, replacing ink in CISS systems and various other handy things.

We've built up quite a library of tutorials and we're frequently adding new videos and based on some great feedback and regular sharing from you guys, we're pleased to announce they're going down really well! As long as there's a need, we will do our best to meet those needs by adding videos regularly.

We rely on our feedback to understand what you guys want to see and what you like to see. Chell said that "The quality [of her City Ink Express CISS system] is excellent and, with the photo step by step and the video on YouTube it was so simple, it was so easy to install" and another loyal customer told others "don't worry if you're unfamiliar with CISS, CityInk have provided helpful step-by-step videos for each system, available on Youtube." We're very thankful for your feedback and would love to keep hearing from you.

Canon is a huge name in the printing industry. This Japanese company has been on the scene for more than 75 years, and the brand is synonymous with top-quality printing and photography equipment. Canon printers can be found in homes, schools and offices the world over – no matter what you need a printer for, Canon is a great choice.

Here are some of Canon’s best printers as of February 2014:

Canon PIXMA iP2702

Canon PIXMA iP2702
Brilliance on a Budget

The iP2702 is one of the most inexpensive colour printers you’re likely to find. Some people have criticised it for its slow print speed and the amount of noise it makes while printing, but for just £14.90 (the Amazon.co.uk price at time of writing), you can’t complain, can you?

Canon PIXMA MG6350

Canon PIXMA MG6350
Everything You Need

This is an all-in-one printer, which means that it can do scans and copies as well as straightforward prints. The quality that you get from the MG6350 is outstanding; it includes a ‘fast’ mode that cuts down on ink usage, and several Amazon reviewers have noted that the print-outs look great even in fast mode.

Canon PIXMA PRO-100

Canon PIXMA PRO-100
The Best Your Photos Can Get

Canon printers in general are pretty good for photo printing – after all, the company are arguably even better-known for their cameras than for their printers. Still, if you’re a professional photographer, you’ll want your snaps to look absolutely perfect when you print them off, and that’s where the PRO-100 comes in. It’s Canon’s top photo printer, and while it certainly isn’t cheap, the quality you get is well worth the cost.

Canon i-Sensys LBP7110CW

Canon i-Sensys LBP7110CW
 One for the Office

This big, heavy-duty printer is perfect for a busy office environment. It prints quickly and crisply, and since it's a laser printer (as opposed to the inkjet printers found in Canon's PIXMA range), your documents won't get smudged and you won't have to change the toner cartridge very often!

Remember, if you do buy a Canon printer, you can get Canon toner and Canon ink cartridges right here at CityInk Express!

To many reading this, the question 'what is printer toner' will seem like common sense. In a modern world filled with technology - surely everyone knows what printer toner is, right? Wrong. For many, a printer is a necessity - not a hobby, and all the fiddly bits that are under the hood are as much a mystery as anything! As long as it works, who cares, right?

But what happens when your printer conks out and you can't for the life of you understand why? Do you shell out for a new one or do you think "bingo, I need a new toner cartridge!" Today we're going to try and help you.

This is a quick explanation of what printer toner actually is, why it's so important and why City Ink Express is proud to sell cheap printer toner cartridges to ensure that your printer always stays at the top of its game.

So what is toner? Essentially, toner is the more modern version of printer ink. Before you had printer cartridges, then you had the sophisticated CISS (continuous ink systems) systems and now in some laser printers and copy machines, you have toner. Toner is a special type of ink that comes in powder form, rather than the liquid (that gets everywhere) that we're used to! This powder ink comes in a cartridge which you can insert into the printer. When your toner cartridge is empty you can simply replace it or have it refilled - but that shouldn't happen too often!

Why is it so important? Because it's the ink, silly! You'll struggle to do any printing without it!

Why do we stock cheap toner cartridges? Because we want you to get the most out of your printer. We have an extensive range of cheap toner cartridges, both genuine - Brother, Canon, Dell, Epson, HP, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Lexmark, OKI, Panasonic, Ricoh, Samsung, Sharp, Tally and Xerox toner cartridges - as well as an enormous variety of high quality replacement toner cartridges that will not compromise the quality of your printing work.

At City Ink Express, your needs are always our primary concern. If you need any assistance on purchasing your laser printer toner cartridge then please call 01332 832752 for a chat.

If you’re sick of going to the local library and forking over your loose change every time you need to print something, you may well have considered purchasing a printer of your very own. But if you’ve never owned a printer before, the unfamiliar jargon (not to mention the many available options) may leave you scratching your head. What’s a laser printer, and is it any better than an inkjet? What’s the difference between ink and toner? How on earth does a 3D printer work?

Fear not, citizen – CityInk Express will clear everything up for you. Here are some of the most common types of printer explained:

An HP Laser Printer

Laser Printer

Laser printers are popular for several reasons – they print very quickly, they’re reasonably quiet, and they’re pretty economical in terms of toner usage. Toner is more expensive than ink, but a toner cartridge will last far longer before it needs replacing. Also, since laser printers don’t use normal ink, you don’t have to worry about smudging that crisp new document you’ve just printed.

A Brother Inkjet Printer

Inkjet Printer

That description of laser printers may make inkjet seem the far inferior option, but that’s not really true. In fact, an inkjet printer is probably the better choice if you want to print in colour – the photos and documents that you print will have a higher quality than those printed by laser. Inkjet printers also tend to be smaller (i.e. more portable) and slightly cheaper than laser printers.

As already mentioned, inkjet cartridges are cheaper and less fiddly to change than toner cartridges, although if you’re going to be printing a lot, a laser printer may save you money in the long run since it will last longer on one cartridge.

A Dot Matrix Printer

Dot Matrix Printer

The dot matrix printer was once the very height of printing technology, but nowadays, it’s considered somewhat obsolete. It’s kind of like a typewriter, in that it uses pins to strike the paper and press ink onto the page. This results in a much lower print quality than laser and inkjet printers, although some companies still use dot matrix printers because the ‘impact’ printing style allows for carbon copies to be printed simultaneously.

a 3D Printer

3D Printer

A relative newcomer to the printing scene, you’ve probably read a fair bit about 3D printers over the last year or so. Obviously, this isn’t what you want for your university essays; a 3D printer is used to create three-dimensional models right before your eyes. You can create your own designs, or download other people’s creations from Cubify. A different kettle of fish altogether, but worth mentioning nonetheless!

We have just released a range of refillable cheap inkjet cartridges for the following epson printers complete with ARC auto reset chips,
